My application checks every 2 minutes whether there is a file called "maintenance.tmp" in the working directory (the shared directory on the file server). If there is, it will invoke method OnQuit() of the application object - part of the framework. Problem is, if there are pending changes, OnQuit() will ask the user whether he wants to save - but this method has worked more often than not, for me.
