I did get a notebook this year also that's been good to me. A Dell Inspiron 1705. Of course I got it right before they decided to reduce their prices last summer. I configured it was a 7500rpm 80GB drive, 2GB mem. It worked out to about 2 grand. 1,700 1 month later.

I went to a training session a couple months ago where you have to bring your own laptop. I noticed quite a few guys had XPS laptops. About 4 grand. I asked them what they got for that price and no one could tell me.

>This is a timely thread. I've been shopping for a new notebook and had been leaning towards a Dell. On their configure page, there is a $400ish charge for next bidness day service/replacement. I think i pass on that. Sams Club had nice deal on a highend HP, but i was hoping to get a 7200 speed harddrive. I figure that will be hard to come by for those pre-built models.
