>Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets and life jackets?

http://www.geocities.com/ctemplar270/Ltseki.jpgA helmet would increase the chance of successfully hitting the target, especially in the face of hostile fire.
If a kamikaze suffered an engine failure en route to a target and was forced to ditch in the ocean, a life jacket would improve the chance of being picked up by rescue, fishermen etc. so he could try again.
