3e+37 = 30,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
3e+37 is a convenient short way to write that very long number (which is too big to display on a calculator's tiny screen)
And, which one would you rather write down? ;-)

>>Indeed, it is a shortcut for scientific notation. The Wikipedia talks about "Engineering notation".

>>In case you are not familiar with scientific notation, you can also have negative exponents, for example:

>>5 * 10 ^ -6 (shortcut or "engineering" notation: 5e-6), meaning 0.000005.

>>10^-6 is defined as 1 / 10^6.
>>
>>Scientific notation (or the shortcut engineering notation) is often used to express very large numbers, or very small numbers (close to zero).
