As you seem to have no source, I'ld make first an attempt to call the original developer without involvement of managment,
listen to his side why there is neither source nor documentation (There might be reason to avoid the company you are not aware of <bg>).

If you are not successful via personal approach, go to managment, tell them the risk and cost possibly involved and let THEM give you carte blanche for getting the info out. (At least you haven't stated that you already went that route<g>)

Then fire up filemon (to make sure you have a flat file approach), build simplified database on a copy of the datafile (1-3 records) and systematically update/check. If this is just a persistence of a class/struct or pascal record you should figure out the offsets.
