I hear the Giants are basically in if they beat the Redskins. Theoretically they could still miss the playoffs but 8 or 9 other things all have to happen.
For sure there are going to be a lot of 8-8 and 9-7 teams in the playoffs. It's almost as bad as the number of mediocre college teams in bowl games. (Almost).
>I have no idea but I am amazed that if Carolina wins this weekend they still have a wildcard shot. If the Giants lose (a good possibility) and Carolina beats NO (last year a good possibility but out of the question this year), it's a shot. This year, the Panthers have no business in the play-offs. Yet, more amazing things have happened in the past I'm sure... :o) In the AFC, I think the Broncos rather than the Jets. In the NFC, I'm leaning towards the Giants or the Packers making it - although I am totally confused by the logic which will get them there (winning and strength of win must be better than the other - sheesh - enough already)

>>While the playoff teams aren't fully set, it's already known that the defending champion Steelers won't make the playoffs, and the Super Bowl losers from last year [Seattle] will make the playoffs.

>>Name the last time that the defending Super Bowl champions didn't make the playoffs the following season, but the runner-up team did.

>>[The reverse has happened many times...where the champs made it the following year and the runner-ups missed the playoffs...but this one doesn't occur as often]
