It seems that this type of behavior is very common these days. I'm not sure why. The moderate repub who lost the election in RI was on the Daily Show a couple weeks ago. Even he has no explanation for the behavior. He gave an example of his discussing with other repubs how they really needed to address the massive deficit. Then some of that group goes to a meeting at the white house and comes back totally in favor of a tax cut.

>What surprises me is the number of generals and past leaders who strongly disagreed with Bush but who refrained from stating so publicly. Look at Ford - he made comments about disagreeing but insisted his comments not be released until after his death. Sheesh - we are now a nation of cowards.

>>>If what I've heard is correct, we have some level heads that hopefully will prevail. There was a quote attributed to bush that he wanted to launch an attack vs. Iran because he didn't trust future presidents to do what he perceived to be the right thing.
>>>
>>>But generals in the Pentagon have pointed to all their war scenarios they've drawn up about Iran. Everyone of them points to massive, massive amounts of casualities.

>>Unfortunately (as recent past shows), When there is a will - there is a way.
>>I am sure that generals and other analysts in pentagon knew/presented all facts about outcome in Iraq (incl. Collin Powel) - but that outcome happened anyway.
>>
>>What is keeping Iran safe at the moment, is probably Iraq disaster itself. Worse it gets less likely new 'ventures' are to occur. What if situation in Iraq was any better ?

>>>Not something you want to get yourself into lightly, without far more evidence that you have no other options.

>>That is exactly what I am afraid of. *Events* happen all the time,

>>but to do just *that*.

>>Lebanon is boiling as we speak.
