Thanks for the lead. Accomplished my task without leaving Outlook using almost the same technique.
After instantiating the Outlook object in the usual fashion, I also used the "SaveFileAs" method to save the enclosed .MSG file to a temp folder. Then by creating another object, oMsg2, by calling the "CreateItemFromTemplate" method using the saved .MSG file as the template, I was able to get to the second attachment using the ".item(1).attachment" and save it to my target folder as a text file, which is what it was.
