If they want to really build an audience, use the driver's name, not the car number. The way they do it now is like announcing a basketball game like this, "Number 4 passes to number 13. Number 13 shoots, but it's blocked by number 58."

That's probably because the announcers can't memorize (or pronounce) the names :).
