Hi Thomas,

many thanks for you proposals.

I had already searched the DL section, but did not find anything. This might have been my failure.

So I went to foxmasters.com, downloaded the +CodeInspector and tested it on a lengthy procedure file (> 5000 lines of code) and a smaller project: Bingo! It did what I was looking for. I will stop searching now and will start using this tool! The 40 EUR, which it costs, are well spent.

Three essential points (at least in my opinion):

1. If you are going to use +CodeInspector you should also install a tool, which does the complementary job: inserting local declarations. This tool can be found in "MegaFox: 1002 Things You Wanted to Know About Extending Visual FoxPro", p. 20, "How do I set up a hot key to declare local variables?" (I mentioned it already in the answer to Gregory.)

2. Learn to use keyboard shortcuts, clicking with the mouse takes too much time.

3. Have "Show line/column position" switched on and work backward, i.e. start at the bottom of the file and work you way back to the top because each addition/deletion will change the number of lines!

Well, the way may have been long, but finally rewarding - so again many thanks for you answer!

Hans
