You can also delete the solutions files from the source directory, then click on the link in the start page. It will tell you that it can't find it and then do you want to delete it. Just say yes.. :)

Basically you move your solution directory elsewhere, start up Visual Studio, click on the solution and you'll get a dialog that this solution doesn't exist, do you want to remove it from the Recent Projects list. Once it's removed, you can put the directory back where it was if you want to. It won't appear on the list again until the next time you open the Solution again.
