You can create connection using Connection Designer and than use it in the View Designer to access data. No writing code involved.

However, I often only need to do a little quick data manipulation and it would be nice to have the ability to bring up a quick "link" interface that takes only a mouse click to establish the connection and automatically write out the code similar to what you've shown. My programming skills are moderate and, with some time, could build such a "quick link" interface but I was hoping that someone with greater skills than I had done a "jam up job" on creating such an interface and would be willing to share it.
