Is that worse, really, than what went on at Abu Ghraib, or than keeping somebody in a secret lockup, incommunicado, so that his family doesn't even know what might have happened to him, or sending him to another country like Syria to be tortured? Soldiers committing rape - is that less despicable?

War is in itself an inhuman and inhumane activity. That some do inhumane things during it, is not really much of a surprise.
