As some of you know, I've got a system problem on-going.

One of the issues is the RAID 1 configuration, which causes great concern with the repair shop.

I've read up what little I could find on RAID1 and the installation process on my system (Promise PDC20378 on ASUS A8V Deluxe).

Seems that for RAID1 it allows you to start with a disk storing data and has command to make a copy and add it to the RAID array.

Since this is a strictly mirrored array I'm wondering if/why the HDs would have any RAID-specific information on them.

Does anyone know if a RAID1 drive can be taken from its array and simply installed and work on a non-RAID system?

I've learned that RAID is basically more trouble than its worth when it comes to mirroring.

Thanks
