Don, you should not need to use a refresh or "do events" to assure a label caption is updated. I never had a situation where I needed to use those guys - and I am not sure why they are used or what they do - but they should not(?) be required to "flush" a caption update.

Perhaps "progress" is too fast?

I knew a "team" once - that put little delay loops in output cycles so the user could get a glimpse of the progress bar progressing!

Use a small file and pop a messagbox with the record number or look at it through debugger.
