Hi jack,

We are developping on a Dell poweredge 1800 server Dual xeon 3.2 Ghz, 2 Gigs of Ram and a mirrored (raid 0) 7200 rpm SATA drive. We have set write caching on just to speed up HD access (though we have to take the risk that something can go wrong).

We are building a 14MB application in just 3 or 4 seconds. IMO, the key is to have quick HD access because the building process is going to access those files. Doing a recompile takes about 10 seconds or so.

Certainly it is possible to speed it up by using ram drives or at least 10.000 rpm drives in raid 5 configuration, but we could not affort that up that point.

Walter,
