The unwritten rule is to go ahead and use the timeouts in the first half and save them in the second half. Perhaps Marty only knows written rules. I was ecstatic about the outcome.

>Well, we both got our wish. I truly believe Marty has coached his last game in San Diego.
>
>This isn't twenty-twenty hindsight - when Marty threw the challenge flag on the late fumble, I knew he'd regret losing the timeout.
>
>There was NO WAY the officials were going to overturn the fumble call. I could see it was a clear fumble when the play occured, in full speed. I'd be shocked if his coaches upstairs watched the replay and told Marty to challenge. Sure, it was a big turnover - but had they kept the timeout, they could have run one more play with 8 seconds to go, to put the ball closer for Kaeding.

>In a close game, you ALWAYS keep one timeout in your pocket.
>
>Once again, Marty loses in the post-season.

>For the 2nd straight year, the teams with the first-round bye go 2-2 in the divisional round. I don't think it mattered much to the Chargers, but the Ravens were FLAT on Saturday.
