Terry,
Oh, you have to go through a gateway that blast air at you on the way into the CN Tower in TorontoIf it's the same sort of device, they're checking you for explosives. Are the blasts of air fairly abrupt? Are there attendants to warn you?
FWIW, that big DOD building in London has an entry enclosure that sniffs for explosives and checks your weight to ensure you aren't taking anything in or out. Been there for years. I don't think the technology is that new.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
