If your time is valuable, look at XFRX at http://www.eqeus.com/. It is not free but it gives you excellent programmatic control and is very reliable and easy to work with. I've been using it for years and it really is an excellent product (about $120 for a developer license royalty free IIRC).

If you have lots of time, you can print using ghostscript (free) but it was somewhat of a pain to implement and deliver when I did it a couple of years ago (drove me to XFRX)...
