>>>>Now can you do something about Jim Carey?
>>>
>>>Yes, I can. I refuse to watch his facial contortions. I don't watch anything he is involved in and never will. He is Mr UnFunny to me. I think Steven Wright is the funniest guy around, but he isn't on tv much anymore. I just look at the general population for laughs these days, and I'm usually grinning!
>>
>>Carey was on a popular late night chat show over here, some time ago. During the show they monitor the other guests in the green room on a big screen. Preceding Carey was a British commedian, Johnny Vegas, who is genuinely funny, quick-witted, inventive, etc., and he had the host, Jonathan Ross and the audience in stitches. Carey could be seen also enthralled in the green room.
>>
>>When Carey came on he knew he had no chance of upstaging Vegas so he resorted to cavorting, thrashing about, grinning from ear to ear, gurning and gumming, and generally being Dumber and Ace Ventura. It was excruciating to watch.

>>The above URL gives a synopsis of his appearance but, how shall I put it, it was by either someone who's sympathetic to him or was being very diplomatic and kind.
>>
>>I love Steve Wright. You're right, he isn't on nearly enough any more. Il ove his one-liners and dead-pan face. I remember years ago he said, "Last week I bought myself a VCR. ... I now have a $700 clock"
>>
>>(of course VCRs have come down in price considerably since then!)

>You're right about that. Even DVD players are now dirt cheap.

They give 'em away with pertol nowadays :-)

>I actually know who Jonathan Ross is. He appears in the Nirvana documentary, "Nirvana Live Tonight". After the band leaves the small soundstage he says, "I 'ope we didn't wake the neighbours!"

He might have been saying "I 'ope we didn't RAKE the neighbours!" as he's got that R-W speech impedimink :-)

He's also a radio DJ and BBC chief cook and bottle washer, presenting anything from the Brit Awards to telethons, as well as being a film buff and presenting the UK's major film review show. IOW ubiquitous.
