>>>Have you seen Bruce Almighty? I love that movie. I don't like a lot of Jim Carrey movies either.

>>No, I haven't seen that one - the one where he's God for a day, right?

>>Because of my stated objection to the guy I don't go out of my way to see his films. And I imagine he's bad enough, but given God's powers ... well all-powerful insufferable pr!ck comes to mind! :-)

>>OTOH, essentially before he came to power properly, in the Mask he was OK, as he was playing a straight guy and then a cartoon maniac. Little did we realise he was going to continue in his Mask persona for the rest of hisa career.

>Not saying this as right or wrong, but personally I separate artists' performances from their personalities. I am not that interested in celebrity "news." All I care about is the roles they play, the books they write, the music they make. No one will accuse Richard Wagner or Miles Davis, for example, of being warm and wonderful human beings, but they sure had something to say musically. Dostoyevsky was not exactly a barrel of laughs in person. I don't care.

Same here about celebrities. However, don't know if you picked 2 good examples there; Dostoyevsky and Wagner didn't try to crack on to be anything different and, if they had been asked onto a chat show they could at least have performed their stuff. But a chat show is not a film vehicle for JC.

Anyway, enough of him - I just reckon he's kicked the arse out of his persona. As has been said here, his portrayal of Truman was a breath of FRESH air.
