That is exactly what happens. That is why when you do have insurance and you go through ER it is so expensive. Once they know who you are and if you are a citizen, they really put out the effort to collect :o)

I know some illegal immigrants who use the ER as a regular doctors office and have never paid a dime. They always give someone else's name and address when they go. No one has EVER questioned it or asked for ID either which amazes me.
