That is exactly what bothers me about American Idol. Everyone is constantly making comments like 'why didn't his family tell him he had no singing talent before allowing him to come on this show?' Yet, what people don't realize is that everyone who appears on the show auditioning in front of the 3 big judges has been through NUMEROUS auditions already before that and has passed each of those auditions which leads them to believe that they have talent. That explains their absolute shock when they appear before Randy, Simon, and Paula and get cut down. My daughter has a friend who is trying out next year. I have never heard a voice like hers. Her sister sings very well too. They are better than anyone I have heard before and don't need computerized fixes. Yet, each of them know of someone in North Carolina with real talent who never made it past the first judging stages in American Idol (never even got to sing in front of Randy, Simon, and Paula). Another thing is that when they have say 10 people who sing soft pop, then they will not select anyone else who sings that same style. They do not want too many of the same type competing. They like to mix it up. So if American Idol has already picked 12 'Christina Aguillera' types before they got to your city tryouts, you will not be selected no matter how you sing and you will not even make it sing in front of Randy, paula, and Simon.

My daughter and I still watch it when it gets down to the top 12. We are just a glutten for punishment! Actually, almost every year there has been a contestant from NC that someone we know, knows.

>>>American Idol. I make a point not to watch it. Sometimes I will come upon it while using the remote control to find something worth watching – like a good commercial!
>>>
>>>I cannot understand why American Idol will have people competing who have little or no talent? Then the “judges” cut them to the bone. Who needs that? Could it be a business decision related to “ratings”? Let me see – Paula is sleeping with one of the contestants. More attempts at increasing ratings? Seems like the wrong decisions to me.
>>>
>>>Two nights ago I saw an Comcast interview of a contestant who appeared on American Idol. He said that you went through many interviews and tryouts in front of different individuals connected with the show, including the producer, etc., before being allowed to perform.
>>>
>>>Last night there was a Comcast spot on television about American Idol allowing people without talent to appear, and the resulting negative comments made by the judges. The thought was that American Idol does this on purpose to “raise ratings”, and the thought was that it would have the opposite effect.
>>
>>But of course, dear boy! The best part about Idol is watching and listening to all these dorks making am exhibition of themselves. I hadn't realised though that the dross were already "screened" before the audition - seems to defeat the object of a "talent show"
>>
>>Once they've cut the wheat from the chaff I lose interest. Guess I'm just a ghoul like the rest.

>Actually, going through an audition before being allowed to perform is the proper way to conduct such an activity. I have been to auditions and appreciate the process.
>
>I just cannot understand why people are allowed to perform who express little or no talent. It is an embarrassment to all involved and an insult to the audience. If I were a judge I would not want to have to tell someone they cannot sing and proceed to tear them apart. This show is sick at best!
