>We never had a bomb shelter in the back yard when I was growing up but I did go through "duck and cover" drills at school. As though our desks would have shielded us.

Now that brings back memories! 640 1240 Conalrad. Remember the jingle for our then Emergency Broadcast System?

In San Francisco they had these huge sealed boxes in every public school. Medical supplies were in the boxes in case we were nuked. One of the supplies was morphine. Guess what? They opened the boxes as they were getting old and no morphine was found.

Duck - here comes a big one!

>>Yah know, we might just have to go back to archaic technology to defend ourselves like, SAGE, Pine Tree, and BMEWS. They were not dependant upon satellites – just plain radar systems. With BMEWS we could see a Piper Cub (or the Russian equivalent) take off from the airport in Moscow! We would plot in three dimensions (via computer) and determine an intercept point for our fighters, should that be necessary.

>>We are so dependant upon satellites for our defense. Too many thoughts and experiences to even consider putting into a post.
>>
>>I think that we will get back to a 1950's mentality - have a bomb shelter in your backyard! Not many people actually did that but it did make the news in its various forms.

>>>Don't worry. Even though this has been all over the news this morning (fears of a space war), I have seen so many posts on this forum by people insisting that the Chinese are NOT A THREAT and HAVE NO SERIOUS MILITARY CAPABILTY. I'm sure they know what they are writing about and the news about the Chinese destroying a satellite is simply a fabrication :o)
