I know I have stated this before but when you get to be my age you repeat yourself.

The one reason I did not reenlist in the Air Force in 1967 was due to the fact that we could destroy the world 7 times over with our nuclear arsenal. The Russians could only destroy the world 4 ½ times so that should have made us all feel better!

Well, a few years ago I heard that the United States could destroy the world 770 times with our nuclear arsenal. What an improvement! I feel better already!

With the fall of the Soviet Union went our defense strategy. Our strategy was based upon a system of deterrence. You launch an air strike or ICBM at us and we will fire a few silos of Minuteman missiles at you. In the end the world will no longer exist.

Take away a system of deterrence (who blew up that nuclear bomb on our soil) and what do you do? Attack Iraq? Cuba? Costa Rica? Blow them all up!

How many submarines are off the shores of the United States with ICBM’s pointed at us? Makes me feel warm all over!

Ignorance is bliss. Let us remain blissful. :)

>They are NOT A THREAT. They HAVE NO SERIOUS MILITARY CAPABILITY. Well, all right, then. I feel so much better.

>I hope I'm wrong but think this was a significant event. What I particularly didn't like about it was the element of crowing -- "If we can hit a satellite in space, we can surely manage to hit a continent."

>>Don't worry. Even though this has been all over the news this morning (fears of a space war), I have seen so many posts on this forum by people insisting that the Chinese are NOT A THREAT and HAVE NO SERIOUS MILITARY CAPABILTY. I'm sure they know what they are writing about and the news about the Chinese destroying a satellite is simply a fabrication :o)

>>>I see the Chinese have succesfully destroyed a satellite in orbit with a missile. I wonder why they are developing that capability.
>>>Could this be the start of a new space arms race.
