Blowing up satellites is the perfect defense, because it breaks the superpower's doctrine of joystick warfare. It brings the focus back to the ground and airplane heights - where the superpower didn't fare too well. Sort of levels the playing field.
Not that satellite imaging can't be fooled - you can't move the bridges, but you can move your assets around in a shell game, and produce fake targets on the cheap. So be ready to lose the bridges and a few important (but already abandoned) buildings and just watch for those pesky cluster bombs and CNN.
It's just simpler to get the satellites out of the way and blind the other side. And, ah, hurt their communications. And disable their Star Wars equip... never mind, that one never worked.
