First, congrats on living in the city that recently rated the best quality of life in the world!

Second, try New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs. Yeah I choose to live here and am presumably biased, but try them!

Third, for deep reds in the $30 range the Aussies seem totally under-represented in this contest. I know South America is closer, but those Aussies make a mean Shiraz.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
