Jim;

Another Monday!

When I entered engineering college during the fall of 1969 I remember one of my engineering books that was interesting. The last chapter was #14, and it was on semi conductors. The rest of the book was on vacuum tubes. We did not have time to review or study chapter 14.

The next class was Spring of 1970. Fourteen chapters and #14 was vacuum tubes. The other chapters were on semi conductors. We did not have time to study chapter 14, vacuum tubes.

Times change and all that! :)

>>I have an ART TPS two channel preamp that I use for recording my flamenco guitar music. It does an outstanding job. Our son has a tube amp for his guitar and it is outstanding!

>Nice preamp. >120 db dynamic range??? Wow. Yes, a lot of bands still prefer the sound of the tube amps. Remember when stores had tube testers? Walk in with a brown bag full and go at it. Interesting writeup over here: http://www.vacuumtubes.net/How_Vacuum_Tubes_Work.htm

>>The subject of solid state vs vacuum tubes is a bit like software tools. Use what is best for the job! Some will laugh but they are clueless as to what reality is. They read the latest copy from Microsoft or a PC mag and "know it all"! :)
>>
>>It helps to keep an open mind. If it happened yesterday it should not be dismissed as "too old" and "not with it", if you know what I mean.

>>By the way I designed and built my first transistor radio in April of 1958 when I was 15. It worked from VLF to VHF. That was a fun project.
