There's a subtle difference. Programmer's handwriting has atrophied into ineligibility. Doctor's handwriting is ineligible from long practice. It's a trademark. I've known a couple of medical students who tried to mangle their writing, because it was too close to nice. Nobody would believe they actually graduated medicine if it stayed so :).
