This is where my solution differs - my search grid will wait indefinitely. The search string is not cleared after _dblclick seconds, but only after the user clicks somewhere in the grid, or presses a navigational key. I've seen a couple of similar classes in frameworks.

Actually, I've always thought that this timeout thing is totally counterintuitive. Maybe not anymore, after a dozen years everyone is trained this way, and then again maybe not - the autocomplete feature doesn't clear after a few seconds, does it?
