Here (Canada) for the most part you can think about where a product comes from (re transport costs) but virtually everything comes from China or Korea. Some clothing items do come from Central/South America, Bangladesh or India, but more and more it is China.

So trying to do anything about it is really a lost cause.

However, those bulbs were likely made with energy from coal (China uses more coal than any country in the world). Burning coal releases a lot of carbon dioxide, along with pollutants. Also, those CFL have to be shipped here to the U.S. I'm fairly certain those ships aren't using wind power :).
