I'm not surprised. I hate to say this, but...um...don't put the combo in the grid??? I did a bunch of screens with grids with comboboxes, but have started to migrate away from that. Mainly because they do tend to be fussy, and they really do slow grids down horrendously (IME) if they're of any size at all.

What I do (based on recommendations in the NGs) is th use a r/o grid with regular text box controls for displaying and quickly navigating to a record, but then the user does their actual edits in controls outside of the grid. It's a whole lot less painful way of going about it. The users are okay with it, mostly just getting used to it.

I don't know if it works for you, but I eventually found it was easier to rework a grid based form than fiddle with the grid.
