FWIW, I use table-bound controls sometimes and temporary data locations (ie. scatter/gather) sometimes. With some data, I need to store records for each time period (eg. this data applies from 97/01/01 to 97/04/12, this data applies from 97/04/13 to 98/02/18, etc.). When a change is made, the effective date of the change is entered. I find that using temporary data locations is a lot easier (especially when applying overlapping changes...like if, in the above example, some data is changed effective 97/03/10, the resulting data must have records for 97/01/01 to 97/03/09, 97/03/10 to 97/04/12, 97/04/13 to ...you get the idea. Anyways, I find this approach is lower level and allows for greater control and clarity when things get a little more complicated. When making a simple edit to data in a lookup table or things like this, I use a table bound interface...
