Also, it would be simpler to just make image objects invisible if there's no image for them, or have a default blank image when the proper image is absent.

I had one form with six image objects, and there could be anywhere between zero and hundred images for each record - out of which I'd show the top six. The code assigned images to image objects where available, and hid the rest of the objects.
