Hope you've enjoyed your visit(s). Petty (and some major) crimes are not rare specially on tourist areas but most Dominicans are friendly people, specially with guests.

My comment to Tracy was because here we've seen the same officials elected time after time even though many of their acts are in clear opposition to the laws and even the common sense. But nobody said you gotta have common sense to be a politician, did they? :)

So forgive and forget IS in our dictionary, unfortunately.
