The great pity of it all is that "the most powerful man on Earth" should have HAD to go to court, and swear on oath, yadda-yadda, for getting a bit on the side. The most powerful man on Earth would have just said "Off with their heads - bugger you" and gone off for a spot of scuba diving, skiing, or just had a nice lie-in; in short, done what he pleased before and after. French presidents have been famous/infamous for having mistresses,m and staying a long time in office, and no one bats an eye-lid.

Like several Americans have said I don't give a toss (Though Monica did though!) what he gets up to in his spare time, so long as he doesn't lead us into unnecessary wars.

I agree it was the lying that eventually gave the thing it's real impetus, but the investigation wasn't started about his lying. It was started in order to make him look bad (and of course, it succeeded beyond anyone's wildest dreams).
