This is something we changed recently in a hot fix to MM .NET 2.3. We had an "issue" with documentation and are recovering from that now--the new docs will talk about BindingList<> vs. List<>. Ultimately, using BindingList<> rather than List<> give us some extra "mojo" when binding strongly typed lists of entity objects.
At any rate, you did the right thing...sorry for any confusion!
