I thought Fosamax was recalled? I'm waiting for some scary lawsuits resulting from people taking statins. There still haven't been any reliable longterm (and wide rainge) studies on the effects of statins and they are prescribed regularly to a large population these days. There have been some studies (funded by the manufacturer and the study lasted 5 years) on some of them which involved specific groups such as Zocor and high risk patients. Those studies sugggest it is beneficial to all of the public, not just high risk groups. But then Baycol, a statin taken by over 700,000 at one time, was pulled off the market due to muscle destruction linked to at least dozens of deaths around the world.
