Good point. But still doesn't solve the problem if you need to change the grid from one alias to another during runtime. In fact, with VFP 5.0, I'm even having problems with MSFT's suggestion of pointing the grid to another table with the exact same structure. For some reason, changing the Grid's recordsource causes all controlsources for the columns to be reset, no matter what you change recordsource to.

This seems to not work with 5.0. Maybe it has to do with the syntax of the controlsources for the grid columns (I also tried leaving columns' controlsources blank and setting the controlsource for each column's control. Still made no difference).
