I use Cyber Patrol on both home PC's that the kids have access to. It works very well. Just be upfront with the kids about the fact that the software has been installed (so when they get this first "blocked" message, they don't feel invaded) and WHY you use it....the old "bad neighborhoods in our town are no different than the bad areas of the internet - and I would make sure you didn't go there either" worked well with my boys. As they got a little older, I relaxed some of the settings so they could get to Sports Illustrated, etc but steer clear of the porn sites.

There are some tricks to blocking things - after all, kids will be kids and try to push the limits. For example, I noticed that "images.google.com" suddenly became a very popular destination for the oldest. Of course, I hadn't thought of the fact that google will gladly serve up thumbnails of every porn site out there if you have Safe Search off.

>>>Any good recommendations for parental control software for browsing the web for a 10 year old?
>>
>>You might want to consider the cost of parental control software, vs the cost of upgrading to Windows Vista which has parental control software built it. With Vista's controls you can do the following.
>>- block all internet access
>>- block all but sites on a allow list
>>- allow all but sites on a disallow list
>>- turn on or off activity monitoring
>>
>>Plus:
>>- you can give the kids an account which can restrict what damage they do to your computer
>>- completely block all games
>>- block games by rating
>>- block/unblock software
>>
>>Just a thought.
