We call it "suncokret" - sun+turn. Probably a good translation. And, btw, we have one dr. Vrebalov, a geneticist who selected a strain of sunflower more suited for the local soil. The size of the flower is remarkable, I've held some in my hands which were pizza-sized. This success came with a twist (literally and as a pun) - his sunflowers turn away from the sun.

While I knew the word for decades, I actually couldn't imagine that it would be pronounced as "dandy line". That's what you get when most of your contact with the language is through text, not speech, and the script is strictly unphonetic.
