>>>I've come to the conclusion that I'm a super-taster. It explains the wide range of stuff that lots of people like that I can't stand, as well as why I can't tolerate much on the "hotness" scale. It also explains why I've learned to eat some of those foods as an adult (since you lose taste buds as you age).

>>My youngest is a super taster "Eeww that's spicy", "I don't like it" (for foods she's never tasted), "It's got the black salt [pepper - tiniest amount] on it. Her diet is sooo restricted and she often eats different from the rest of the family. Feeding her as a toddler was a nightmare - she'd only readily accept dairy.

She IS 7!

When she was a babbie, it was milk, rice pudding, yoghurt, and ... that's about it. She does eat broccoli, raw carrot, cucumber, et al. But do you see a richness of taste pattern here? She likes KFC, but only those hideous "popcorn chicken" things. She doesn't like the orig. recipe chicken, but she's never tasted it.

>I actually like garlic these days.

You ever noticed the Indians (Asian) don't smell of garlic? I learnt a trick off them years ago. You finely dice the garlic, then gently fry that first in the oil/butter and hey presto! - no dog breath!

>One favor you can do her is to help her find healthy foods she likes and to find a way to explain her situation that doesn't make seem like a PITA. I've finally learned to make light of my being a picky eater, but I'm still struggling with the pounds I started to put on at adolescence, due to liking bread and butter, mashed potatoes, etc., better than any fruit or vegetables.

>As for the "I don't like it" without trying, that's probably a manifestation of so many things being too strong.

No, we're talking plain roasted chicken here, but the restaurant puts a mild sauce on it. She eats plain pasta, or with just a tom. sauce on it. She likes chucky eggs but only plain bread soldiers (time was she wouldn't entertain butter - but dairy mad - go figure). Sausages, yes, esp. cocktail variety, ham, any fruit -not a lot else in her diet.

>I still have a hard time getting myself to try new foods because I'm afraid of not liking them. Again, it's gotten better, but still an issue.
