Interestingly enough, those are exactly the API functions that I had used within our software to get around the "#" in computer name problem. Not really needed in Win2K or WinXP (which will disallow "#" in the computer name), basically was a problem if you've got users using Win95/98 (don't know if WinMe did or not -- I've avoided that platform). I don't have a copy of Vista right now to test to see if it allows you to put "#" in a computer name or not. One thing that I haven't checked is if I switch to Chinese or Japanese mode if the computer name uses double-byte characters -- if it is, then "#" might still occur (although it would be part of a double-byte character sequence, which of course would still pose a problem unless you code accordingly).
