That's why I don't take chances now. On my resume I put 20 years of experience everywhere ;-)

And by the way do like many do. You charge less but when comes the time to do something you tell them "Awww but you did'nt told me I had to do that. This will take longer and this will be more expensive".

We'll have to turn more and more like used car sales person. That's what we'll have to do when speaking with persons that don't know what they're talking about.

>Well, a project manager, coming in from the consulting world, with at least three years of experience, should have much more than that. I understood consultants who were doing the same type of consulting I was doing in Montreal a few years ago were bound to several times the rate the corporations in Montreal were ready to pay. Which means, across the border, some are making much more than what the consultants in Canada do. Last week, a company in Montreal looked at me as if I was a monster when they asked for the rate. And, the rate provided was a competitive one. Usually, I will tell them, that in such circumstances, they might be better to hire 3 to 5 juniors at their preferred rate, spend and loose about 150 to 200k for that year, and come back later with a change of minding on the topic.

>It makes me thing about the company who had a requirement for a .NET developer in VB.NET having 8 years of experience. Has it been out that long? Something I also see a lot is a list of requirements with 10 years in that, 8 years in that, 12 years in that, another 6 years in that and so on. Basically, they look for the perfect guy who does not exist. But, what is worst, they are only ready to offer a 50k annual salary because they simply have no idea what they are talking about.
