I'm not John, but mind if I jump in? REALBasic is an interesting contender. I recently bought it too.
It has most of the features VB6 had, and then some. It has subclassable forms, controls and menus (!), which VB sorely needed. It has its own local data engine (limited, but useful as only we in the Fox community know).
I haven't done extensive tests, but as someone working on a vertical market product the cross-platform reach (Windows/Linux/Mac) is quite compelling. You end up doing almost as much work to get Xplat done *right* as we used to do in FPD/FPW/FPM but it seems much better engineered.
It's no Xbase, but so far it seems a worthy platform. If you need to do database development on a Mac, it's a no-brainer. I think FileMaker is the closest competitor.
I'm impressed, and I'm a jaded and cranky old SOB when it comes to software. ;-)
