I live in the Memphis area (Bolton). Here are some useful tidbits for you:
1. Memphis is the second most dangerous metro area in the country.
2. If you have no guns, get some and learn to use them (unless you don't mind being robbed).
3. As dangerous as it is here, the BBQ is great!
4. Plan all vacations for August (100 degrees, 99% humidity)
5. Get ready to see racism extra, from all sides. Nothing happens in this town that doesn't have a racial under or over tone.
6. I don't know about living "inside" the city. Actually, I do, and that's why I live outside the city. I pay half the property tax and have almost no crime around me.
7. If you want to be close to work, and don't mind putting your family at risk, YOU might consider some of those lovely old homes in the midtown section of Memphis.
8. If you want safety, security, and don't mind a little drive, look at houses in Fayette county.(just east)
9. You might want to get some Jeff Foxworthy CDs. It may be funny, but it's also true and accurate. djueatyet? Nope, yaonttoo? Aight. . . and so forth.
10. Memphis is an enigma, encircled by a riddle.... For all the bad about this place, people can also be surprisingly charitable.
