I get a big laugh out of it everytime. I was involved in the configuration of MILNET (and later NIPRNET) and even ADSL during the beta testing. I went from location to location on Fort Bragg in 1996 to install and test the ADSL there. Fort Bragg signed off on the test in early 1997 and got funding in the summer.

What I find most interesting is the lack of knowledge about early communications. The Army used networked laptop tempest secure computers back in the early and mid 80s. I personally had a GRID computer and every general in the Army had one as well as most Brigade level commanders. We had GRID laptops which all communicated with each other (and back to base) in the early 80s. They were manufactured in the UK. The TACCS computer came out in the 80s as well for communications on the battlefield for personnel management and accounting (SIDPERS). Now that was a large heavy box!.

>>On another subject, just to be fair, since he told us via the media that he brought the internet to the world, why isn't he being nominated for worldpeace via world communications???? :o) ROFL...

>JIC you don't know what a silly charge that is, the exact quote is "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." At the time, we had the ARPANET. Gore was (among) the first in Congress to understand what a globally available computer network could mean and to push for it.
