I have never appreciated having to deal with the space in Program Files anyway.

No problem, but you'll have the same issues there. Basically just about any area of the machine is not accessible for write access by the local user with the exception of My Documents and related paths. This means anywhere you dump your app you have to adjust permissions or reduce user rights in order to be able to write there.
