>Humans are animals who got some shell around. Religion is an important component of this shell. Take it out and the shell may crack down. Most religions teach very simple things: you shall not murder, shall not steal, shall love parents and respect neighbors. Simple as it is, but take it out and they revert to the same animal as it was before Moses wrote it; and if this animal got some knowledge how many snakes were created at any point of geological history, it doesn't make things much better.

I happen to disagree. Morality does not come from religion. Most religions teach to love parents and neighbors, etc. as you say. Many of them also teach intolerance and many other not so desirable traits.

Religion is not a needed component of this shell. It is a historical one, not evolutive or physical. It was started by the ignorance of primitive man of the natural things around them. Day and night, sun and moon, fire and water, those must be supernatural things.

It was organized by the priestly and ruling classes in antiquity to gain control of and rule the masses. Do as I say or I'll invoke the wrath of the gods. Obey the king because the king is divine (a descendant of the gods).

We know a little better now and sun, moon, fire and water are not mysterious and have been explained for centuries. The mythology that most people like to believe in has changed over the centuries but it still relies on supernatural, magic, invisible beings.

As for morality and rules of behavior in society, I am not a sociologist or a psycologist but I certainly do not believe that "take it out and they revert to the same animal as it was before Moses wrote it". You can be moral without a belief in a supernatural deity that will punish you with eternal damnation if you misbehave.

Do unto others, and love your parents and your children, etc. are not religious inventions but simple common sense laws and customs for living in an organized society.
