>>>Well not all. I read an article a couple years ago that the Los Angeles police remove the motto from their police cars.

That's a common misconception, that most days being a cop are "boring." I had fun almost every day I worked as such. There was always something different happening, from helping distressed people, to doing building searches, to rescues, to just visiting with people and getting to know them. Then there was the really dangerous stuff, like putting data on the web for our officers, writing stuff that let them print the documents when an arrest occurs, etc.

As for beating folks, I probably didn't get in more than a couple of dozen fights during my time of over 30 years. I usually could talk people into going to jail by giving them the option plan.

Plan A: The easy way - get through this without either of us getting hurt and you don't get any extra grief like another charge of assaulting a police officer.
Plan B: You get to go to the hospital, and I may even have to go too, but you will ultimately end up in jail. You will not pass go, you will pay a lot more than $200.00 and you will not feel good about it later. If I have to call for fellow gang members, there will be a sea of blue lights in the street and they WILL be perturbed that you pulled them out of the local donut shop!

Most took option A, and I'm glad they did!
